Meet Sam

20+ years helping people move better, feel stronger, and achieve lasting results

Sam Moore.

Since starting in the fitness industry over 20 years ago, I’ve built my work around helping people move better, feel stronger, and gain confidence in their bodies. I’m the owner of Firefly Pilates in Potters Bar, as well as an artist and a full-time single mum.

My journey began as a teenager growing up in South Africa, where I attended weekly Callanetics classes in our local village hall. I still remember how good the movements felt on my spine—especially after long days sitting at a school desk—and how inspiring my teacher was. That experience stayed with me and sparked my early interest in movement and exercise.

At the time, I had planned to pursue teaching exercise, but I was encouraged to follow my creative side and went on to study Graphic Design—something that continues to influence the way I see movement, detail, and form today.

How it All Began

MY journey into pilates
River Thames, London

After four years studying Art in Durban and a year working in the design industry, I realised my interest in movement hadn’t gone away. I made the decision to follow it—moving to London in the early 2000s to retrain in Personal Training, Nutrition, Injury Rehabilitation, and Sports Massage.

Dashed line

In 2005, I was introduced to mat Pilates, and it immediately resonated with the Callanetics I had loved as a teenager. From that point, I continued to study extensively, deepening my understanding of the Pilates method and how it could support people moving away from pain and injury.

Over the years, I’ve seen first-hand how powerful a well-structured approach to movement can be. Many of the clients I work with come to me with ongoing issues, complex needs, or specific goals—and it became clear that a more individual, integrated approach was needed.

This is what led me to develop the Firefly Method—bringing together Pilates, sports and deep tissue massage, and tailored exercise to support long-term improvements in strength, mobility, and how the body functions as a whole.

I continue to invest in ongoing education to ensure my work evolves alongside my clients’ needs, and to deliver a high level of care and attention in every 1:1 session.

At Firefly Pilates, I’ve created a calm, focused studio environment where each person is supported as an individual—whether they are recovering from injury, managing pain, or working towards improved performance and strength.

A Balanced Approach to Life

Real life, real challenges—and making movement a priority

Life is busy, and it doesn’t always go to plan. Like many of my clients, I juggle work, family, and the unexpected—but I make movement a priority. I aim for three Pilates sessions each week and regular walks, which help me feel strong, capable, and more in control of my body.

Outside the studio, life centres around my daughter and the simple things we enjoy together—travelling, cooking, being creative, and spending time at home, often with our Russian Blue cat, Max, who likes to make the occasional appearance. That sense of balance is important to me, and I believe it’s something we’re always working towards, not something we perfectly achieve.

Like many women, I’ve also navigated the changes that come with menopause, learning how to support my body through strength, movement, and consistency.

In 2023, I experienced cancer and underwent surgery, followed by further preventative surgery in 2025. In both cases, Pilates played a key role in preparing my body beforehand and supporting a smoother recovery afterwards. That experience deepened my understanding of how important the right approach to movement can be—especially during more challenging times.

Looking after your body isn’t a luxury—it’s something that supports every part of your life.
